Terms of booking
Loch Stroan in the Galloway forest

Terms of booking

Please read the following terms and conditions carefully as, by completing your booking, you will be deemed to have accepted them.  We strongly recommend that you consider taking out travel insurance to cover your stay.

Bookings

We will confirm your booking in writing, usually by e-mail. All bookings are provisional until confirmed by us and we have received the deposit.

Payment terms and cancellation

Payment may be made by debit or credit card through the online booking system; this is our preferred method.  Payment by BACS is also accepted if necessary.  A non-refundable deposit of £100 is required at the time of booking (see owner cancellation).  The balance will be due 6 weeks before your arrival date.

If the booking is made less than 6 weeks before the arrival date, full payment will be due at the time of booking.

If you are unable to keep the booking, please contact us to discuss your situation (see transferring a booking and cancellation by you).

Transferring a booking

If you need to transfer the date of your booking after it has been confirmed by us, we will charge you £75 to rearrange the booking.

The new booking must be within 12 months of the original rental dates. If the original booking was in low season and the new booking is in high season you will need to pay the difference in price. If the original booking was in high season and the new booking is in low season, we will refund the difference in price.

Cancellation and refunds

Owner cancellation

If we cancel for any reason we will refund in full the deposit, and the balance payment if made. We aim to return the applicable amount within 10 working days of cancellation.

Cancellation by you

If you cancel the booking, and cannot, or are not prepared to, transfer the booking to another date (see transferring bookings), the deposit is not refundable.

If the cancellation is more than 28 days before the rental start date we will refund any balance payment you have made, less a £75 administrative charge.

If the cancellation is within 28 days of the rental start date no refund will be given.

If you cancel, or fail to arrive, on or after the rental start date, no refund will be given.

Included in the tariff

Prices include electricity, bedlinen and towels but please bring your own towels for use on the beach.  An exception to this is if you are travelling to Scotland by air, in which case please let us know at the time of booking if you require beach towels and we will arrange to provide some for you.

Arrival and departure times

Access to the chalet on arrival is usually any time from 3:30 p.m. and we ask that you leave by 10:30 a.m. on the day of departure.  However, occasionally it may be possible for you to arrive earlier or depart later.  If it helps you, please do ask about this.

No smoking or pets

Please note that we do not allow smoking or pets in the chalet.

Adults only

Please note that the chalet is available for adults only.

Occupancy

The number of people occupying the chalet must not exceed that stated in the booking.  Sub-letting is not permitted.

Please tell us immediately about any issue or problem which you notice on arrival, or anything that arises during your stay.  We reserve the right to have access to the property at any reasonable time to resolve any issues or should we have cause to believe there is

a problem.

Any breakage, loss or damage may incur a charge to you, although we would not normally ask for payment for minor accidental damage and breakage (e.g. of a glass

or plate.)

Please leave the chalet in a clean and tidy condition.

You will understand that no activity may be undertaken at the property which is illegal,

or may cause damage, unreasonable noise, anti-social behaviour or disturbance

to others.

We cannot accept responsibility or liability for injury or illness sustained by any guest or anyone invited onto the property by them, nor for loss of or damage to vehicles or effects brought on to the property.

Caravans

Please be aware that caravans are not allowed anywhere on the Laigh Isle site, should you be combining a stay here with a caravanning trip.

Wi-Fi and mobile phones

Please bear in mind that the chalet has no internet connection nor landline telephone and mobile reception in the Machars is patchy.  It is usually possible to pick up a Vodafone signal by the window in the double bedroom and 4G, EE and BT-Fon are also usually accessible in the Isle but we cannot be held responsible if no network is available.

We understand that Wi-Fi is available nearby for customers at both St Ninian's Hall and the Steam Packet Inn at the harbour but please check with them.  Wi-Fi is also available at various other hospitality venues in the area.  We cannot be held responsible for any change, or failure, in the provision of Wi-Fi by these venues.

Short-Let Licence Information

From 1 October 2022 the law around short-term lets changed in Scotland.

From that date, all owners of short-term let accommodation in Scotland need to be approved and hold a licence from the local council.

The approval process is centred around your safety as a guest - areas tested and inspected, for example, are water, gas and electric supply, portable electrical equipment and fire detection.

More information relating to this licencing scheme can be found on the Scottish Government's Website  www.mygov.scot/short-term-let-licences
